Feather
River Steelhead | Book
a Trip
Twenty-five minutes from our downtown Chico store is one of best steelhead fisheries
in the Central Valley, the Feather River. When we’re not out guiding, you’re most likely to find us here.
And with good reason. Greater returns of “half pound” and adult steelhead over the last several years
has made the fishing productive, exciting, and just plain fun. Feather River steelhead leap high and
fight hard. The best fishing is in the fall for adult steelhead that average 3 to 4 lbs with a fair number
of adults to 6 lbs. A few fish 10 lbs + are reported each season. Spring steelhead fishing is also available
for half pounders that average 12-15” and a small number of adult fish 3 to 6 lbs. Spring is also the
best time to catch wild steelhead on the Feather River. Six and seven weight fly rods are best to bring
these fish to hand. Indicator nymphing is the most productive technique, although swinging flies is also
an option.
